Continue from where you left off

Partly trained lessons are for learners who already understand some vehicle control and road routines but need a clear assessment and structured teaching plan. You may have completed lessons with another school, practised privately, failed a previous test or paused learning because of work, study, cost or confidence. We do not automatically take you back to the beginning or repeat skills you can already perform safely.

Your instructor will assess your observations, junction approach, positioning, speed control, meeting traffic, roundabouts, manoeuvres and independent driving. You will then receive direct feedback about what is already secure, what needs improvement and what should be practised next. This makes each lesson purposeful and helps you avoid paying to repeat unnecessary basics.

Passers Hub instructor standard: lessons are delivered by fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructors. We do not use trainee PDIs, and every instructor has more than ten years of professional driver-training experience.

Who these lessons are designed for

Changing instructor

If your previous teaching style did not suit you, we assess your current standard calmly and create a consistent plan without judgement.

Returning after a break

We rebuild routines and confidence at a sensible pace before progressing to busier Manchester roads and test-level decisions.

Previous test experience

We use examiner feedback, mock tests and focused coaching to correct repeated faults and make safe decisions more consistent.

What we assess and improve

  • Cockpit drill and moving away safely
  • Mirror, signal and manoeuvre routines
  • Junction approach and effective observations
  • Roundabout planning, lanes and safe gaps
  • Meeting, crossing and overtaking traffic
  • Speed choice and progress appropriate to conditions
  • Positioning on normal and multi-lane roads
  • Bay parking, parallel parking and pulling up
  • Following sat-nav directions independently
  • Responding safely to signs and road markings
  • Motorway and dual-carriageway confidence where appropriate
  • Mock tests with clear, examiner-style feedback

Manchester presents a useful range of real driving conditions: residential streets, parked-car meeting situations, busy junctions, multi-lane approaches and larger roundabouts. Training is matched to your ability and postcode, with difficulty increased only when your core routines are dependable.

Your partly trained lesson plan

1. Initial assessment

We discuss your previous experience and watch how you manage normal roads, junctions and traffic. The purpose is to establish an honest starting point.

2. Focused development

Lessons concentrate on the specific weaknesses that prevent consistent safe driving. Progress is reviewed clearly after every session.

3. Test-ready preparation

When your skills are secure, local route practice, independent driving and mock tests help you perform consistently without instructor prompts.

Manual or automatic partly trained lessons

You can continue in manual or automatic, subject to local instructor availability. If you have already learned in a manual car, we can help strengthen clutch control, gear selection and planning. If gears are slowing your progress or affecting confidence, you may prefer to compare our automatic lessons. Changing transmission is a personal decision: we will explain the practical differences without pressuring you.

Choosing the right support

Partly trained lessons are normally best when you have previous experience and want steady, structured progress. If your practical test is very close and you need urgent fault correction, our driving test rescue course may be more suitable. If you want lessons condensed into a shorter period, compare our intensive driving courses in Manchester. Learners who hold a full licence and simply want confidence after time away should consider refresher driving lessons.

Partly trained driving lessons FAQs

Will I have to start driving lessons again from the beginning?

No. Your first lesson establishes what you can already do safely. We then focus on the skills that need work rather than repeating the full beginner syllabus unnecessarily.

Can I change to Passers Hub from another instructor?

Yes. Many partly trained learners change instructor. Tell us about your previous lessons, any test experience and the areas you want to improve so we can plan an effective assessment.

How many lessons will I need?

There is no responsible fixed answer before an assessment. The number depends on your current standard, lesson frequency, confidence and ability to perform safely without prompts. We will give you an honest plan after seeing you drive.

Do you teach nervous or previously unsuccessful learners?

Yes. Our confidence-first approach uses calm explanations, manageable steps and repeat practice. Previous test attempts are used as useful evidence, not treated as failure.

Can I take partly trained lessons in an automatic car?

Yes, manual and automatic options are available subject to instructor coverage. We can help you compare them based on your experience and goals.

Which Manchester areas do you cover?
